Email Design Philosophy

Main focus: Get Clicks!

In marketing graphic design, every element is crafted with one main goal in mind: to drive engagement and ultimately "get clicks." A successful design goes beyond aesthetics; it strategically guides the viewer’s attention, delivering clear, persuasive messaging that inspires action. From choosing eye-catching visuals and precise typography to creating user-centered layouts, every choice is made to maximize conversions. Getting clicks means the design is effective, compelling audiences to interact and move further along the customer journey, making design not just a creative exercise but a key player in measurable marketing success.

Email Design Process

Templates & Brand comprehension

For a marketing graphic designer, a deep understanding of the brand is essential. A well-designed piece should echo the brand's personality, values, and message, creating a cohesive experience that resonates with audiences. When the designer fully grasps the brand, each graphic element, color choice, and font selection becomes a powerful extension of its identity. Pre-designed templates play a crucial role in this process, serving as the structural foundation for consistency, speed, and scalability across campaigns. By establishing templates that align with the brand’s visual guidelines, designers can streamline production, focus on fine-tuning creative elements, and ensure a polished final result that feels both cohesive and custom-built. This approach not only saves time but amplifies brand impact, enabling campaigns to connect with audiences seamlessly across all touchpoints.

Collaboration with a Copywriter

In marketing design, collaboration with a copywriter is key to creating cohesive and impactful campaigns. The designer and copywriter work together to harmonize visuals and language, ensuring that the message is clear, compelling, and aligned with the brand's voice. This partnership is a creative dialogue: the designer shapes visual elements that support the copy, while the copywriter crafts text that complements and elevates the design. Through open communication and shared feedback, this collaborative process creates materials where design and copy are in sync, capturing attention and driving engagement more effectively than either element could alone.

Feedback and Review

Reviewing designs with brand specialists and other stakeholders is a vital part of the creative process for a marketing graphic designer. This step allows the designer to ensure that each piece aligns with the project’s strategic objectives, resonates with the target audience, and adheres to brand guidelines. Brand specialists bring insights into the broader campaign goals and audience expectations, helping to refine and strengthen design choices. Feedback sessions create an opportunity for constructive dialogue, where designers can explain creative decisions and managers can suggest adjustments to enhance clarity or impact. By embracing feedback and iterating on designs, the final result becomes more polished, strategically aligned, and effective in meeting marketing objectives. For this step, I use Figma, allowing me to showcase multiple designed assets simultaneously, collect comments and feedback, and then demonstrate the changes in a clear and concise format accessible by anybody with an internet connection.

Implementation

For a marketing graphic designer, implementing email designs into a CRM like Klaviyo is where creativity meets functionality. After crafting visually engaging, on-brand email templates, the designer integrates them into Klaviyo’s system to ensure seamless functionality across all devices and inboxes. This process requires attention to detail, optimizing design elements such as image sizes, font choices, and mobile responsiveness to guarantee that every email looks professional and inviting. Within Klaviyo, the designer can also utilize dynamic content blocks, personalization tags, and A/B testing setups, helping tailor the email experience to different audience segments. This integration not only brings the design to life but also enhances the campaign's performance by leveraging Klaviyo's powerful tools to track clicks, opens, and conversions, aligning design with data-driven marketing strategies.
